Food Waste Friday -sigh..

Hello!   It's

FoodWasteFriday

And boy, do I have some waste to share with you!
Part of it wasn't my fault.
Like this onion that was bad when I pulled it out of the bag.
It actually looks okay in the picture, but that white stuff around the ends is mold, and one whole side of it was black and soft. Icky.

Or this orange hiding in the middle of the orange bag that had a moldy spot on it. I briefly considered trying to eat the other side, but it was all squishy and weird-feeling so I decided against it.

Those both went into the compost to turn into black, crumbly dirt.

Most of the waste however, was my fault.

I forgot to put away dinner one night, so this delicious stir-fry I made had to go into the trash.
I was really looking forward to eating for lunch the next day too!

Also, these noodles got caught hiding in the very back regions of the fridge. They could've been a nice lunch for the kiddos if I'd remembered they were there.

Then there were the two sneaky mushrooms that went bad literally overnight.

They shriveled up and got hard and pitted. I thought about drying them, but since there were only two, I just threw them in the compost instead. The entire carton was only $0.49 at Aldi so I am not too upset about that.

Lastly, I cut up a very ripe avocado last night to eat with dinner (baked potatoes with taco toppings) but I am the only one who eats avocados in our family and it went black even though I put lime juice over it.
That went in the compost too. Our compost has been getting a lot of contributions this week!

I really hope next week will be better!

I didn't think that you were doing too badly until those pictures kept coming. Better luck next week.

Something must be up this week. So may people have posted about silly "oops, i forgot" moments. I read one person forgot their lunch and left it out. Someone else forgot to grind their coffee before they brewed it. I'll chalk it up to the unseasonably warm weather making everyone's brains fuzzy. We'll all do better next week :)

Thanks, dearies. I really hope next week will be better! I do think the warm weather had something to do with it as well- we've all been wanting to just be outside and not bother with cooking. :)
