Food Waste Friday- Oh, boy.

FoodWasteFriday

This Friday, I am NOT so happy to report that we wasted a lot of food.

I've been in one of those 'not wanting to cook' moods this week which translates into either eating out (which translates into upset stomachs) or just eating leftovers which in theory, should reduce food waste.
For some reason, that theory didn't pan out this week.

We wasted about 2 or 3 bowls of the Beef Au Jus stew that I made last week. It was really good, but we'd been eating soup a LOT lately and we were just kinda tired of it. And the weather got warm, which makes me want spring food, not winter food. Excuses, excuses! ;)

Some hummus got moldy... I'm pretty sad about this since I bought it to make Greek Pita club sandwiches but then never did.

Also the cilantro that's been on the brink for two weeks finally bit the dust.

And the kids didn't finish this pasta, which was enough that I felt it should be documented.

Not pictured were some oats, a few rolls that sat out overnight and got hard as rocks and half a banana that was uneaten by the kiddos.

::hangs head in shame::

All of this waste means that (hopefully!) I'll do better next week, right? ;)

How did you do this week?

You and me both. Next week we'll be awesome - no waste! (Cross your fingers) :)

Sometimes we just have one of those weeks. Good luck next week.

It's pretty cool that you took photos of everything. Figuring out how to make the right amount food for my son is really challenging. And how to reshape it so that he eats in the next meal. Anyway, we're trying together, though on other sides of the world!

Jess- I hope so! :)

Live and Learn- Yup. Not every week can be waste free, I guess.

Jo- If I don't take pictures of the food as I am about to throw it away, I completely forget what all I wasted. :) Mommy brain, for sure.

Kids are so challenging to cook for (and serve the right amount!) I try to err on the side of giving them less to begin with, then they can ask for more but I didn't do that with the pasta. Usually I save the leftovers from the kiddos and reshape it into other meals as well, but they wouldn't touch this pasta the next day. Oh, well. Maybe next time!
