Food Waste Friday, October 28, 2011 and A Fun Fishing Trip

I have an almost waste free week to report to you.
We came really really close to not wasting any food for the first time ever. Except for one little sneaky, dirty little thing:
Steel Cut Oats.
I had to throw out so many little bits left over here and there from our breakfast every morning that I couldn't in good conscience say that we didn't waste this week. All together, I imagine those little bits were probably almost a whole breakfast worth of oats.
Darn Oats!
Sigh. Maybe next week.
The hunt for the elusive "No Waste Week" continues..

In other news, we had a fabulous time fishing yesterday.
The weather was blustery and the trees were gorgeous.
We didn't catch anything (this seems to be a trend for us) but really, fishing is not about catching fish. It is about experiencing the outdoors together as a family and having fun, while happening to throw a line  with a worm on it repeatedly into a lake.

In our case, fishing is also about avoiding being caught by the hook while our 4 year old is trying desperately to cast it into the water. :)
It is also about picking up the worms, sinkers, and whatever else your 1 year old decides to dump everywhere while your back is turned. Oh, the adventures of having children! We never have a dull moment.
I don't think I'd have it any other way. :)

How cool are these roots?!

My little mischievous munchkins. :)
